We are finishing our 3rd night in Lorient - a little ahead of when we did this part of the trip last year. The weather hasn’t been as warm and sunny in comparison, but we have had some good days and managed a similar amount of sailing I would guess.
The boat has been pretty good - only one problem (so far!) but nothing as smelly as the blocked loo last year so no complaints. Our port (left) nav light has stopped working but we carry an emergency set (its only used for night sailing). Its taken some serious effort to investigate it so far - maybe a fix when we get to La Rochelle where there are alot of chandlery shops.
Next up is Morbihan. We are planning to go straight to Cruesty on the edge of the Morbihan waterways and then hopefully up into Vannes. It will take some planning as Vannes is a city location inland for the marina - navigating the river needs to be done at the right time due to strong currents and there is a bridge that onl;y opens briefly to finish the journey. From there a few days in Quiberon / Isle of Houat depending on the weather. Then we’ll move on for a quick stop or two on the way to La Rochelle. We might even get some land transport and do a couple of nights in Bordeaux during this phase...
The only current fly in the ointment at the moment is Paul has some severe tooth pain (nerve related) which means we might end up in one location a little longer than we would have otherwise spent while getting some treatment. As always we’ll keep Polar Steps updated and this year I’m making efforts to post a pic from each new place on Instagram as well… Other channels are a bit more haphazard!
In summary the outline plan is this:
- Rest of May - work our way down to La Rochelle
- 1st 2 - 3 weeks of June - La Rochelle and the islands near by, then Royan.
- End of June - head down and into Spain
- July - Spain
- August - Back into France and anchor our way up the islands etc
- Sept - do the top part of France and get back to England
